Verifying Netscape email settings

Your Dnet Internet Services Installation CD should automatically install Netscape Messenger with the proper email settings. Should the verification of these settings be required you can follow these steps to do it.

1. Double click the “Netscape Messenger” icon on the desktop.

OR- click on the mailbox on the Dnet desktop application [depending on the sign-up CD you used, the desk top application will look like either of these below].

This is assuming that you have selected Netscape Messenger as your default email program during installation.

2. After Netscape starts, click the Edit menu and select Preferences.
3. On the left side of the Preferences menu expand Mail & Newsgroups by clicking the “+” on the left.
4. Under Mail & Newsgroups click Identity. On the right side under Your Name, make sure it has the name that you want other people to see when they receive an email from you. Under “Email Address” should be your username followed by @dnet.net. Ex. “username@dnet.net”
5. Under Mail & Newsgroups click "Mail Servers". Then click the "edit" button on the right side. This will open a new window called Mail Server Properties.
6. Make sure the white area on the right side of Server Name say’s “email.dnet.net”. Check that the box to the right of Server Type has “POP3 Server” selected. Make sure you Dnet username is in the box labeled User Name. Make sure there is a check in the box beside Remember Password and click "OK" at the bottom.
7. You should now be back at the Preferences window. Check that “smtp.dnet.net” is in the box labeled Outgoing mail (SMTP) server. Check that your Dnet username is in the box labeled Outgoing mail server user name. Now click the OK button at the bottom of the Preferences page.
